Why Sign Up For Reward Programs?
Why sign up for all those frequent flyer reward programs? I used to think this too but I have found a great reason to other than just getting the credit for built up miles. One of the best reasons for this is that if you are a member of an airlines miles reward program you get placed above others who are not, let me explain…
If there are two people on a standby list for a flight, they will put anyone with more miles first, followed by anyone who is a rewards program member regardless of the number of miles you have flown.
If you fly for business often enough this alone is cause enough to sign up for all the frequent flyer programs.
Of course only sign up for reward programs that are free, you should never have to pay to be a member of a rewards program.
Most programs now a days even give you free miles just for signing up, but I would not sign up for airline credit cards just to get the miles.
It seems almost every airline now has a kiosk in the terminal to try and get you to sign up for their credit card in order to get a free t-shirt and some free miles. Stay away from these, more credit cards is not what you need.
Besides, if you figure out the actual monetary value of the miles you get for free for signing up for a credit card you will see it is not just worth the hassle.
